Shaping 6G vision

Partners will shape the vision and scene regarding the need for and potential opportunities occurring from the future 6G wireless technology.

It further aims to map the landscape specifically in Belgium, with attention for performance as well as values to be supported by 6G.

BEL6GICA main objective

This research network and project will ensure that there will be a new impetus that of the scientific knowledge and know-how around 6G between the different research groups very much strengthens and accelerates its development.

6G Roadmap

Bel6Gica team will sketch technical roadmaps that will inventory the technological state of the art, identify gaps towards 6G, and clarify how strong expertise in the Belgian landscape could contribute to the R&D required to close these gaps.

  • High performance communication

Partners will study technological enablers to satisfy the stringent Quality of Service requirements that 6G use cases will impose on the network in terms of latency, reliability, and data rate.

  • Internet of Things

The goal here is to study the 6G evolution of Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-Type Communication (MTC) technologies to enable ultra-low power connectivity at massive scale.

  • Communication, positioning & sensing

The aim is to investigate 6G capabilities that allow the network infrastructure to be simultaneously exploited for communication, positioning, and sensing.

  • Future RAN enablers and architectures

It is of the utmost importance to radically rethink the radio access network (RAN) architecture for 6G, so that the technologies considered in previous tasks can be optimally integrated, planned and deployed, and exploited.

  • End-to-end networking

This part considers the end-to-end 6G network architecture, encompassing not only end devices and RAN, but also the network core, and computing infrastructure.

6G Sustainable Development Goals

The main objective is to evaluate how 6G can be developed with concern for and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the broad sense, considering the double notions of a ‘sustainable 6G’ and ‘6G for sustainability’.
